Hello from Dubai guys!
Ready to read my awesome blog,
You should be, it's awesome, anyway...
If you read my 1st blog you would have heard about my 1st day of travel, then this will make sense ( if you haven't I thoroughly recommend it - its awesome!) so,starting where we left of ...as we entered the spice market/souk ( souk is the Arabic word for market place or place of goods) mum found a great spice seller.
Now in Perth you go into Coles and master foods spices are lined up along the wall, this is not like that,AT ALL! Here you buy the spices by the kilo fresh from the desert even the rarest of them are sold in abundance saffron the rarest of the herbs is found in all the shops at only about $2.50 or 10 dirhams ( the currency here) we also bought very cheap souvenirs as shown here
Then we moved to the canal and gold souk,we took a traditional dhow ferry across the canal,I found it very hard to believe that traditional ferries had motors, but hey, Dubai is ahead of its time, so,why not.
After we had crossed the canal we entered the gold souk, the people who name these places do not have much imagination as I think we saw about 1 000 000 shops selling gold and valuable jewellery.
Soon After we were thoroughly lost. We where asking asking people left, right and centre for directions although nothing seemed to help in the slightest. We lost Drew, found him, had dinner at an Indian cafe thing and finally we got a taxi home and collapsed into bed.
The next morning we all felt a bit cultural so we decided to take a bus tour all around Dubai, here's some of the stuff we saw
- All of the souks
- The Dubai mall
- The mall of the emirates
- WAFI mall
- The biggest aquarium in the UAE
- the tallest building in the world! ( as seen bellow)
- The palm islands
- Hotel Atlantis
- The street of textiles
- Heaps of 5 star hotels ( like 200 of them, seriously, could it get any more luxury)
After 4 hours of touring we felt slightly less touristy but we'd booked a desert safari so of we went to that:
The tallest building in the UAE |
When you think Dubai you think tall buildings and mosks as shown here:
But its really more like this
Drew found a original style hat
And me... well let's just say I saw the light!
LOL!!!
Our tour went a bit like this:
- An hour drive to the desert
- An hour jeep version roller coaster all over the sand dunes
- A photo stop
- Another hour jeep roller coaster all over some more sand dunes
- A 2 second camel ride
- A bit of a muck around in a tridional alrabian village
- Henna hand painting on my arm
- Some examples of traditional Arabian dancing
- A really nice Arabian dinner
Photos of the above
(Sorry I don't photograph my food that much and I didn't catch a photo of the dancers either, sorry!)
And then we went back to our our hotel and collapsed into our much needed beds
That morning we ate a hurried breakfast and boarded our flight to Greece,Athens!!!
Hurray
