Everyone here is a Cretan

New day, new country.
Today we are in Crete. The Southernmost and largest island of Greece.

Here's what I did today.

  • Had a nice breakfast
  • Explored the Greek market place
  • Caught a bus to Knossos
  • Explored the acient ruins of King Minos's palace
  • Took about 5000 pictures
  • Wrote blog

Marketplace
When we got into the marketplace you notice it is extremely different from home. At home we have people selling things in organised markets. Here the stalls are just pressed up against a shop wall. I got some awesome sunglasses. - I mean these sunglases are cool enough to have New York subway map on them. Good and getting better! Also everything is extremely cheap. My sunglasses cost seven euros! about ten dollars! At home you would pay 20 dollers because theyre import.they sell some very strange things here like snails! it's revolting! Also some nice amulets and jewellery, and heaps and heaps of fish

Knossos
After the markets we headed to Knossos. We went to Knossos to explore ancient palace of King Minos. As you enter Knossos you can feel the ancient "civilisationess". There are peacocks and grapevines everywhere and it all adds to the beautiful and sacred feeling of the place. We decided to get a tour guide and after a small cost of € 10 she showed us everything including the floor plans!

Wow - maze like flor plan

Looks confusing right, that's because this is the original maze of the Minatour, apparently Labyrinth which means maze used to mean palace and what a palace it was!

The ruins. The bull arena aka the Labyrinth is at the top left.

Not to mention some amazing wall paintings such as this very famous one. It shows a Minoan acrobat standing in front of a charging bull. When the bull dips its horns the acrobat grabs them, and then summersaults onto the bulls back and then off in a second summersault. Could be quite "ouch" aka gored to death if the stunt went wrong. In acient Egypttion architecture the women are depicted in white and the men in red so archioligsts assume its the same here.

Me on the oldest road in Greece

I'm on the oldest road in Europe and we think, the world. OMG!!!!!

This throne in this picture is where the head priestess used to sit and perform rituals for the palace. The guards sitting on either side of her throne are griffons - head of an eagle, skeletal system of a snake and the body of a lion. There is a copy of this throne at the international law courts.
